30/40/50/60 Pitching (6/19/19)
Practice pitching to flag from set distances of 30, 40, 50 and 60 yards. I used a technique that I saw on Eric Cogorno Golf.
The goal is to use kinesthetic awareness (the ability to know where your body parts are in relation to space) to feel where your hands are relative to your body to control distance.
56º Wedge (Half Grip)
30 yards - Feels like pocket to pocket
40 yards - Feels like hip to hip
50 yards - Feels like above hip to above hip (love handle area)
60 yards - Feels like rib to rib
70 yards - Feels like chest to chest
80 yards - Feels like shoulder to shoulder
90 yards - Full swing
50º Wedge (Half Grip)
90 yards - Feels like rib to rib
100 yards - Feels like chest to chest
110 yards - Feels like shoulder to shoulder
120 yards - Full swing
Difficulty: +/- 5 Yards of target
Setup: 4 Balls with a 75% success ratio from each distance. Failure restarts the entire process from 30 yards
Reps: 2 Complete reps of 30-60
Time: 30 Minutes
Notes: Once I trusted in the fact that pocket to pocket would consistently result in 30 yards, it was easy and natural to feel where my arms were in relation to my body. Hip, slightly above hip and ribs are the simplest.
I started to run into issues with the 56º hitting feel shots above 60 yards. My 56º maxes out at 90 yards, so it's difficult to trust such a high flight when I'm trying to hit a 70, or 80 yard shot. I need further experimentation with grip height and swing distance to dial in the distances. Possibly looking to get on a Trackman.
Difficulty: +/- 5 yards of target
Setup: 4 balls with a 100% success ratio. Failure restarts the entire cycle back from starting distance
Reps: 1 Rep 30-60. 1 Rep 60-30
Time: 30 minutes
Notes: I found it much easier to go from 30-60 than to start from 60 and decrease. It's a newer process so it might be easier to add than instinctively feel the distance by taking away.
More practice and repetitions are needed.
